I am going to share with you a little more insight into what was expected from me and my overall course. Below are the learning objectives that this course offered. Some of these learning objectives may have been met through these blogs, and some may have not been. To get a more critical look at whether I have met these learning objectives with learning outcomes I share more details about my class and course work, which I hope you find as interesting as I did!
1. To examine and
convey basic and emerging marketing concepts and terminologies;
2. To study and
understand the marketing mix, target markets, consumer behavior, service
marketing, social media marketing and the strategic and financial implications
of marketing decisions on the other functional areas of business;
3. To recognize the
importance of the consumer and the vital need for consumer orientation on the
part of all employees in all firms and organizations;
4. To explore ethical
issues confronting marketing managers;
5. To have the
opportunity to put marketing into action via team and individual projects,
research, reports and presentations; and
6. To set personal and
professional goals and positively contribute in an engaged class.
The first learning objective of "to examine and convey basic and emerging marketing concepts and terminologies"was definitely met with the help of doing and creating this blog.
This blog allowed me to express what I have been learning in class in a way that made it clear to me and hopefully to readers that I was not only understanding what I was learning, but could also turn around and apply it. Through these blog entries and with the freedom to talk about different topics I was able to meet and achieve three learning outcomes that are listed below.
These blogs allowed me to illustrate and express my understanding of the responsibilities of marketers and their responsibilities. There are many examples of this throughout my blog, the most recent probably being their responsibilities and struggles of changing marketing tactics during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. These entries also helped me apply critically what I was reading about marketing, whether it was new marketing news, such as the posts about Wal-Mart and Coke Life, or clearly providing and evaluating the information I was learning from the course text.
Finally this blog helped me communicate with my written and oral (in a way). Communicating to a target audience is very important. The way a person writes and expresses his or herself is in a way their voice. The way one addresses and audience whether through written word or oral presentation is essential in capturing the audiences attention and communicating ideas. I hope this blog connected to the audience in the way I set out for it to and if this is so then this learning objective was met with a whopping 3 learning outcomes, which I'm pretty excited about!!
1. Understand that
the marketing process starts and ends with customers and consumers.
|
2. Analyze and evaluate marketing opportunities
in the internal and external environment across a variety of settings.
|
3. Formulate innovative solutions to solve
marketing problems in a variety of settings.
|
The second learning objective, which was...
2. To study and
understand the marketing mix, target markets, consumer behavior, service
marketing, social media marketing and the strategic and financial implications
of marketing decisions on the other functional areas of business;
was reached and was also met through this blog as well as with different assignments the course provided. This blog really helped me understand social media marketing in a different way. Yes, because this blog's content had to do with marketing, but also because social media is really a way to market one's self. Keeping this blog was so much different than a Facebook page, but it is also similar. They are both outlets to represent one's self, whether it is through personal pictures and statuses or weekly blog entries about what one is learning in school.There were numerous times during the course in which I was able to see how businesses used the marketing mix, target markets, social media, consumer behavior, etc. One specific instance was watching a short movie that provided insight on how businesses use social media to represent themselves, but also to communicate and connect with the target audience and consumers.
This helped me leave with the learning outcome of "
Understand that the marketing process starts and ends with customers and consumers." Businesses and marketers aim to satisfy consumers needs and desires. In this way they start the process and they ultimately end the process as well with the purchase or non purchase and their satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
Learning objectives three and five were tied together for me.
3. To recognize the
importance of the consumer and the vital need for consumer orientation on the
part of all employees in all firms and organizations;
5. To have the
opportunity to put marketing into action via team and individual projects,
research, reports and presentations;
A really neat aspect of my marketing class is we used a practice marketing simulation. The best way I can explain it is it was almost a virtual game like the Sims that allowed us to put to use what we were learning in class. It allowed us to make decisions based on the marketing mix and 4 Ps, making sure we kept into account the importance of the consumer and that their needs come first. We were acting as the employees so it helped us understand this aspect as well. I am saying "us" because I am not just talking about me. I worked with a great group, where we worked together, individually, wrote reports, and gave presentations. This left me feeling as though the learning outcomes listed below were definitely met.
- Participate and communicate as an effective member of a team.
- Through experiential learning, improve your knowledge and skills.
Finally the learning objective
6. To set personal and
professional goals and positively contribute in an engaged class.
was easily met through the engaging lectures. I had a really great professor who kept pretty much all members of the class engaged and participating whether they wanted to or not. The many presentations she had us do helped the class with experience getting over our nerves as well as conduct ourselves in a professional way. I think I left this class with so much more experience and knowledge of myself and my future and professional goals.Well this about wraps it up for now, but I may keep up posts in the future so I would definitely keep and eye out. If you have been following my blog or just read this post I appreciate it! Thanks for reading and have a great Christmas and Happy New Year!
